You need to know social media is not a fad. It can be used for much more than connecting with friends, family, and old classmates.

All successful marketing plans must now include some way form of social media strategy, not just becuase it’s an excellent vehicle to connect with potential customers, but becuase it’s a means to solidify existing ones.

Have you ever heard the statistic that it costs 10 times more to get a new client than it does to sell to an existing one? Imagine a hundred or a thousand existing customers on your Facebook or Twitter to whom you can market to on a daily basis, not because you found them and decided to sell to them, but because they gave you PERMISSION by signing up on your page.

It’s not limited to just Facebook and Twitter…

Social media also encompasses Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Mixxit, and more. It’s a way to constinously connect with your base at little to no cost to you, and it allows you to send your messages rapidly to a group of people who are willing to listen.

Knowing how to use each tool, when to use it, what content to place on it, that is the key to a successful social media strategy. Not only is there no guidebook tailored towards any industry in social media, but because there are new avenues popping up almost monthly the game is continously changing in a fluid motion.
